Daughters of the American Revolution, Lawrence Kearny Chapter, to host America 250 lunch at Broadway Palm

On Monday, July 6, at 11 a.m., the Lawrence Kearny Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, is hosting a lunch and America 250 program at the Broadway Palm Theater in Fort Myers. WGCU will present a curated screening from Ken Burns’ documentary around the spirit of service in American culture.  Professor Kartik Kristnalyer, author of “Florida and the American Revolution,” explores Florida’s involvement during the war. The Spirit of Service screening reel includes selected excerpt from the PBS series to encourage thoughtful discussion about the American Revolution, especially the spirit in American culture. Once again, American Legion Post 136 will be the proud sponsors of both the parade and the fireworks. As we will be celebrating our nation’s 250th birthday, Post 136 would like to pull all the stops making this a fun and exciting party and invite the Pine Island community to spend the day and evening at the American Legion. Lee County operations adjust schedules for Independence Day

Most Lee County administrative operations will be closed Friday, July 3, in observance of Independence Day.  The county’s holiday schedule adjustments are as follows:   Solid Waste • Residential garbage, recycling and yard waste schedules in unincorporated Lee County, the Village of Estero and the Town of Fort Myers Beach will not be affected by the Independence Day holiday. • The Reuse Center, 6441 Topaz Court, Fort Myers, is normally open the first Saturday of each month.
