Lee County operations adjust schedules for Independence Day
Most Lee County administrative operations will be closed Friday, July 3, in observance of Independence Day.
The county’s holiday schedule adjustments are as follows:
Solid Waste
• Residential garbage, recycling and yard waste schedules in unincorporated Lee County, the Village of Estero and the Town of Fort Myers Beach will not be affected by the Independence Day holiday.
• The Reuse Center, 6441 Topaz Court, Fort Myers, is normally open the first Saturday of each month. Due to the holiday, it instead will be open 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, July 11.
• Lee County Solid Waste offices and the Household Chemical Waste Collection Facility, 6441 Topaz Court, are closed on Friday, July 3. All other facilities, including the Lee-Hendry Landfill and Resource Recovery Facility, will be open normal business hours.
• Solid Waste urges all residents to recycle plastic, metal and glass containers from Independence Day activities. Remember, do not place plastic bags in the recycling cart.
• Never place active, hot or dry fireworks directly into trash or recycling bins.
• If the plans for the long weekend include cleaning up around the garage, remember to dispose of batteries from cell phones, power tools, laptops, e-bikes and other rechargeable devices at the Household Chemical Waste and Electronics Recycling Facility, 6441 Topaz Court in Fort Myers. Community Development
• All Lee County Community Development lobbies and phone lines will be closed Friday, July 3, and will reopen for regular hours July 6.
Lee County Utilities
• The offices of Lee County Utilities, the call center and drive-thru window will be closed on Friday, July 3.
• A drop box is accessible via the drive-thru for payments by check.
• Payments can be made at any time at myutilities.leegov.com or 1-855-895-6939.
Libraries
• Library branches will be open on Friday, July 3, but Library Administration and Home Borrower Services will be closed.
• All locations will be closed Saturday, July 4.
• Regular operating hours will resume July 6.

Domestic Animal Services
• Animal Services, 5600 Banner Drive, Fort Myers, will be open Friday, July 3, but will be closed Saturday, July 4.
• Regular business hours resume July 6. Hours are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. for the Lost & Found Pet Center and 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. for the Pet Adoption Center. The doors open at 8 a.m. for paperwork.
LeeTran
• LeeTran services will run as normal on Friday, July 3. LeeTran will not run bus, trolley, mobility on-demand, or paratransit service on July 4.
• Service resumes July 5. Route schedules and maps are at www.rideleetran.com.
Parks & Recreation
• Parks, pools and preserves remain open on Friday, July 3, and Saturday, July 4.
• Offices and recreation centers will be closed Friday, July 3.
• Recreation centers reopen July 4.
• Check www.leeparks.org for the list of open locations, hours and amenities.
• The county asks park patrons to remember no alcohol or fireworks are permitted in county parks.
Transportation
• The Lee County Department of Transportation reminds motorists the Cape Coral Bridge will be closed for the Red, White & Boom celebration from 3 a.m. Saturday, July 4, through 3 a.m. Sunday, July 5.
• Cape Coral Parkway from Del Prado Boulevard to the bridge also will be closed at that time.
• Motorists are encouraged to use the Veteran’s Memorial Bridge, U.S. 41 or Business 41 bridges.
• Lee DOT will place message boards for motorists in advance of the closure; they will remain in place through the holiday and the closing. Motorists should plan for an alternate route.
