One goal of the Eagle Book Club is to share the love of reading to others. In that spirit, the club is hoping Pine Island Elementary students can create bookmarks for the Pine Island Public Library to distribute to their patrons in January in hopes of spreading the love of reading throughout the community. Students can design bookmarks using a template provided. Let Mendy Nelson know if teachers are interested in having their students participate in this activity and they will receive a packet of blank bookmarks. This Saturday, April 11, at 2 p.m., there will be a celebration of life for former member and Pine Island seasonal resident Sharon Herpers, who passed away on Feb. 10, 2026. A Eucharist Service will be followed by a gathering in St. John’s Comfort Hall for friends and family. Herpers was an active member of St. David’s Episcopal Church in Minnetonka, Minnesota, for almost 60 years, as well as St. John’s Episcopal Church on Pine Island and Epiphany Episcopal Church in Cape Coral.
