The Kiwanis Club of Greater Pine Island will hold its first-ever Chili & Trees event Saturday, Dec. 13, from 4:30-7:30 p.m., at Street Eatz & Ale. This new holiday celebration brings together two local favorites — delicious chili and festive Christmas trees — for an evening of food, fun and community spirit. Attendees can enter their best chili recipe to compete for the title of Best Island Chili, with winners chosen by popular vote. The Matlacha Holiday Lighted Boat Parade will be held Sunday, Dec. 14. Boats should gather on the south side of the Matlacha bridge at 5:30 p.m., and the parade will begin at 6 p.m. The best viewing is from the bridge or along the shores of Matlacha — but please respect private property. After going under the bridge, the boats will proceed north along the east shoreline of Matlacha, around the top, down the west side and return. No registration is necessary, all boaters are welcome to participate, and those not boating are encouraged to come out and watch.
