Pine Island Potters Guild’s season-ending show Saturday

The Pine Island Potter’s Guild will hold its end-of-season show Saturday, April 11, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., in the courtyard of Koucky Studios.  This season-ending show also honors the age-old tradition of Spring Cleaning! Many of the artists and artisans will delve into the corners of their studios to find hidden treasures to offer at this event, along with their newest works. This April tradition was passed on to the guild by Chuck and Nancy Koucky, who have honored this age-old ritual since they opened their studio in 2001. Islanders oppose proposed cell phone tower location

Island residents came out to a hearing examiner hearing last month to oppose the proposed location for a cell tower. Those who spoke said they would like to see providers use the existing tower on Pine Island. Pine Islander Steve Eldredge said a new cellphone tower, which has been requested by Skyway Towers LLC and may have a future at 7645 Barrancas Ave. in Bokeelia, could be both good and bad for the island. Celebrating Pine Islanders: Bonnie Potter

Pine Island Food Pantry president Bonnie Potter said something everyone should know about her is likely her passion for making sure people on the island are fed. “Making sure people get nutritious food is very important to me — especially the little kids,” Potter said. In speaking of her constant desire to provide basic sustenance, she shared the joy it brings her to let children choose their own produce, which, she said, is available at the pantry, an arm of the Harry Chapin Food Bank. Scores from 3/26/26 March madness was capped off by Bonnie Kellen with a whopping score of 205, followed by Tony Lindsay with 130 and Renee Simmon with 105. Scores from 4/2/26 Starting off April with a shower of good scores on 4/2/26, Sue Rasmussen took first place with 125, and Terry Wilbur was in second with 105. We had 16 players. Eagle Book Club service project underway

One goal of the Eagle Book Club is to share the love of reading to others. In that spirit, the club is hoping Pine Island Elementary students can create bookmarks for the Pine Island Public Library to distribute to their patrons in January in hopes of spreading the love of reading throughout the community. Students can design bookmarks using a template provided. Let Mendy Nelson know if teachers are interested in having their students participate in this activity and they will receive a packet of blank bookmarks. Celebrate of life for Sharon Harper Saturday

This Saturday, April 11, at 2 p.m., there will be a celebration of life for former member and Pine Island seasonal resident Sharon Herpers, who passed away on Feb. 10, 2026. A Eucharist Service will be followed by a gathering in St. John’s Comfort Hall for friends and family.  Herpers was an active member of St. David’s Episcopal Church in Minnetonka, Minnesota, for almost 60 years, as well as St. John’s Episcopal Church on Pine Island and Epiphany Episcopal Church in Cape Coral.  She was kind, generous and loving.
