The Calusa Waterkeeper Quarterly Meeting will be held Saturday, April 11, from 9:30 a.m. to noon at Florida Southwest University. The meeting is free and open to the public.
Calusa Waterkeeper’s quarterly State of the Water meeting will feature guest speaker Dr. David Davis from University of Miami. He’ll be talking about his findings on the relationship between algae toxins and Alzheimer’s disease.
The meeting will be in Room U–102 on the FSW campus at 8099 College Parkway, Fort Myers, FL 33919
A pasta dinner fundraiser for Pine Island resident Lisa Dence will be held Wednesday, April 15, at the St. James Civic Center. Dinner will be served from 5-7 p.m.; eat-in or carry-out.
Tickets are $20 and available in advance from Julie Robbers at (239) 744-9767 or at the door.
Dence is the owner of Salty Girls Cafe in Bokeelia. She has been experiencing some serious medical issues and is unable to return to work. This is a severe hardship for Dence and her family.

On Saturday, April 11, at 2 p.m., St. John’s Episcopal Church will hold a celebration of life for former member and Pine Island seasonal resident Sharon Herpers, who passed away on Feb. 10, 2026.
A Eucharist Service will be followed by a gathering in St. John’s Comfort Hall for friends and family.
Herpers was an active member of St. David’s Episcopal Church in Minnetonka, Minnesota, for almost 60 years, as well as St. John’s Episcopal Church on Pine Island and Epiphany Episcopal Church in Cape Coral.

The next Calusa Land Trust kayak trip will be on Easter Sunday, April 5, at 10 a.m., so wear your bunny outfit and come along to celebrate the last kayak trip of the season.
This time we will be launching at the end of Sanibel Boulevard in St. James City and exploring the mangrove islands in that area. It should be well protected from the wind so barring rain and extreme wind, the trip should go on as planned.
