The Lee County Department of Transportation reminds Pine Island residents that sidewalk improvements will begin Monday along Stringfellow Road.

This project includes the removal and replacement of sidewalk panels in areas where cracking and concrete deterioration have occurred. Construction crews will begin on the south side of Stringfellow Road near St. James City and progress north as work advances.

The project schedule will be from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m, Monday through Saturday. Pedestrians and bicyclists should expect to see intermittent sidewalk closures and are encouraged to follow posted signage.

Only the sections of sidewalk being repaired will be closed. The entire sidewalk will remain accessible where work is not actively taking place.

Work will continue intermittently through summer and fall until the project is complete, pending weather or unforeseen circumstances.

The work is part of a contract that Lee County Commissioners approved in March 2026 for several DOT projects to improve roads, sidewalks, bridges and drainage. Funding for the projects comes from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Community Development Block Grant – Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR) allocation to Lee County to address the disaster recovery needs of residents affected by hurricanes.
