Lee County DOT asks motorists to be aware of temporary, intermittent lane closures during overnight hours on the Matlacha drawbridge in February

The Lee County Department of Transportation asks motorists in the Pine Island-Matlacha area to use caution beginning the evening of Feb. 3 as intermittent, overnight lane closures occur on the Matlacha Drawbridge.  The intermittent, single-lane closures are anticipated from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m. on Feb. 3through Feb. 5 and again Feb. 10-12, if necessary. A flagging operation will ensure that emergency vehicles will be given priority and that traffic can continue to move throughout the nighttime work. Kindergarten registration underway at PIE

Attention parents of children entering Kindergarten at Pine Island Elementary School for the 2026-27 school year.  If you have not done so already, please register your child for school as soon as possible!  Come to Pine Island Elementary School (5360 Ridgewood Dr., Bokeelia, FL 33922) and ask for the Information Specialist.  This will help ensure that we have the correct number of teachers in place for the start of next school year.  If you know of anyone on the island that has a student entering Kindergarten next year, please share this information.  Please call 239-283-0505 with questions.
