MATLACHA – An overnight lane closure will be in effect on the Little Pine Island Bridge beginning Thursday, March 12, at approximately 8 p.m. This lane closure is anticipated to continue through 5 a.m. Friday, March 13.
During this time crews will begin striping operations on the bridge. Flaggers will be present on sight to direct traffic.
The bridge reconstruction will deliver long-term improvements to the transportation infrastructure serving Pine Island and the surrounding communities. Motorists are asked to continue exercising caution and to reduce speeds while traveling through the work zone.

American Legion Post 136, located at 4106 Stringfellow Road in St. James City, will be conducting its first turkey shoot Sunday, March 22 (the rain day is Sunday, March 29), from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the Legion. Now is a great time to practice your marksmanship while helping to support the Legion Scholarship Fund for graduating seniors from Pine Island.
There will be three categories target practices at $5/each target. Youth ages 14-17, men and women. Prizes for best in each category will be given out to the winners. The public is invited to join in the fun and excitement to see who gets the best target.

Fishers of Men Lutheran Church, at 10360 Stringfellow Road, will hold a Ladies High Tea to celebrate spring. The event is Saturday March 14, starting at 11 a.m.
The color theme for the high tea is pastels to go with spring so when shopping for your dress and hat, keep these colors in mind.
Finger foods, sandwiches, pastries and sweets will be paired with a selection of tasty teas (or plain old coffee) and perhaps a sparkling bubbly.
There will be entertainment as well as a parade of Pine Island ladies in their finery.

First Baptist Church of Pine Island will hold its Yearly Yard Sale and Car Wash Saturday, March 14. All proceeds will go towards sending students from Pine Island to summer camp at Word of Life the Coast in Hudson this June.

The Lee County Commission voted last Tuesday to award a contract for construction engineering and inspection services for several Lee County Department of Transportation projects to improve roads, sidewalks, bridges and drainage.
