Fine-tuned focus and unwavering high expectations have earned two local educators top recognition for driving exceptional student growth.

The Pine Island Elementary (PIE) School recently honored fifth-grade teachers Bridget Amico-Dodig and Amber Kunkel with the prestigious High Impact Teacher Distinction Award.

The recognition reflects extraordinary academic progress made by their students over the past school year, serving as a clear testament to Amico-Dodi and Kunkel’s intentional, benchmark-aligned instructional strategies and daily commitment to excellence.

“Their work demonstrates how high expectations and intentional, benchmark-aligned instruction lead to measurable student growth,” Principal Dr. Michael Galbreath said in a statement. “They impact student learning and success each day at PIE.”

School leadership highlighted Amico-Dodi and Kunkel’s ability to translate high classroom standards into measurable, real-world student achievement. By aligning their curriculum precisely to learning targets and cultivating a supportive, focused classroom atmosphere, they raised the bar for student success across the grade level.

The PIE community expressed great pride in having both educators on staff, praising their professional expertise and their deep personal investment in their students’ growth and future achievement.

“We are proud to have these two teachers as staff at PIE and celebrate their professional and personal impact on student learning and achievement,” Galbreath said. “Way to go!”
