Join members of the Calusa Land Trust and Florida Fish and Wildlife at the Wigert-Barron Preserve on Saturday, April 11, from 9 a.m. to noon for a free, family friendly event all about gopher tortoises. CLT will debut a StoryWalk featuring children’s’ book, “Gus the Gopher Tortoise” by Thomas Kibalo at the Wigert-Barron Preserve in Bokeelia. The StoryWalk will remain on display for the month of April, but April 11 will be an opportunity for the first 25 families to win a copy of the book and to play an “I Spy”-type scavenger hunt to identify some of the plants and butterflies that can be seen at Wigert-Barron Preserve.

Come to the Potter’s Guild end-of-season show Saturday, April 11, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m, and enjoy the work of local artisans exhibiting in the courtyard of Koucky Studios. The Calusa Waterkeeper Quarterly Meeting will be held Saturday, April 11, from 9:30 a.m. to noon at Florida Southwest University. The meeting is free and open to the public.
Calusa Waterkeeper’s quarterly State of the Water meeting will feature guest speaker Dr. David Davis from University of Miami. He’ll be talking about his findings on the relationship between algae toxins and Alzheimer’s disease.

A pasta dinner fundraiser for Pine Island resident Lisa Dence will be held Wednesday, April 15, at the St. James Civic Center. Dinner will be served from 5-7 p.m.; eat-in or carry-out.

Dence is the owner of Salty Girls Cafe in Bokeelia. She has been experiencing some serious medical issues and is unable to return to work. This is a severe hardship for Dence and her family.

A Eucharist Service will be followed by a gathering in St. John’s Comfort Hall for friends and family.
