Wounded St. Cloud veteran Craig Messina (U.S. Navy, Ret.) will receive a new all-terrain trackchair from The Independence Fund during the Florida Gulf Coast University baseball game on Saturday, April 25. The trackchair will be presented in partnership with Kappa Alpha Order’s Zeta Phi Chapter.

Since 2016, Kappa Alpha chapters nationwide have raised more than $1.4 million to provide veterans with mobility devices, including all-terrain trackchairs, through The Independence Fund’s Mobility Program.

Messina served six years in the U.S. Navy before his military career ended due to a service-related hip injury and an on-base vehicle accident. He sustained herniated discs, permanent nerve damage, and required hip replacements, and he will need spinal fusions. Prolonged standing and walking are extremely painful and significantly limit his mobility.

“A trackchair would change my life, allowing me to do things I wouldn’t normally be able to do,” said Messina. “I would be able to take walks with my wife, walk the dogs for longer than five minutes, and go to the golf course and shooting range with my kids.”

The game against North Florida will be in Swanson Stadium at 10501 FGCU Lake Parkway, E., Fort Myers.
