Voting begins for Breeze Athlete of the Month for March
Voting for the Cape Coral Breeze Athlete of the Month for March is now open.
There were a number of top performances from student-athletes in The Breeze coverage area during the month — even though most of the student athletes enjoyed a break from the athletic fields due to Spring Break. And while the list is short, it’s time for our readers to decide who will earn top honors for the period.
Nominees for March include:
• Bennett Sweitzer, senior, Bishop Verot: The Viking standout became the first-ever wrestling state champion in Bishop Verot High history. He won the FHSAA 1-A 175-pound state title, defeating Jacob Bacon of Aubrey Rogers 5-2 in the championship match.
• Emma Brannan, junior, Cape Coral: The softball pitcher hurled a no-hitter with 16 strikeouts for the Seahawks in a 3-0 win over Oasis. She has a 1.79 ERA through seven games and 43 innings in the circle this season, striking out 86.
• Rylie Moore, senior, Mariner: The softball standout helped the Tritons to a win over Estero, going 2-for-2 with a double, triple, and three RBI. Moore is batting .429 on the year with 13 RBI.
• Xavier Muentes, senior, Mariner: A leader on the baseball diamond, Muentes
racked up five RBI in a win over Cape Coral, going 3-for-3 with a double and two runs scored. He is hitting .500 on the season with two homers and 22 RBI.
Athlete of the Month nominees are comprised of the Breeze’s staff-selected Athletes of the Week for that respective month.
