To the editor:

Students and staff at Pine Island Elementary School celebrated Valentine’s Day by sharing kindness, appreciation and plenty of heartfelt smiles throughout campus.

The day was more than just sweet treats and festive cards — it was a reflection of the school’s Pine Island Pledge. At P.I.E., students strive each day to be kind, caring, respectful, responsible and safe, while always trying their best in everything they do. These lifelong character traits are a central focus of the school’s mission and are reinforced both in the classroom and beyond.

Throughout the celebration, students demonstrated the values of the Pine Island Pledge by expressing gratitude to teachers and staff, supporting one another and spreading positivity in simple but meaningful ways. From thoughtful notes to acts of friendship, the campus was filled with reminders that small gestures can make a big impact.

School staff emphasize that character education is just as important as academic success. By nurturing kindness and responsibility at school, Pine Island Elementary hopes those values will continue to grow in students’ home lives and throughout the wider community.

Pine Island Elementary would like to wish everyone in our community a wonderful Valentine’s Day — and encourages all to continue spreading love and caring not just on Feb. 14, but every day of the year.
