40th year anniversary of Matlacha’s luminaries

1 min read

To the editor:

2,500 luminaries covered the streets of Matlacha making the 40th year a truly memorable Christmas event! A 7-foot Christmas tree was added to enhance the evening’s celebration of the lighting of the luminaries. In addition to celebrating luminaries, Matlacha had an exceptional year with no hurricanes!

Special thanks for the appreciated volunteer “Elves” who solicited, assembled and distributed the luminaries. This is a neighborhood event and many homes contributed with their holiday lights, an added feature that expanded our motto, “Let’s Light Up Matlacha.”

The weather was perfect and neighbors enjoyed an evening of the never-ending, warm glow of the luminaries on Matlacha’s streets and the added attraction of the Christmas tree that provided additional colorful lighting on Island Avenue.

Special thank you appreciations extended to John and Cheryl Honc for their generous donation of sand and to Mr. Green for the use of his lot.

This 40th anniversary of Matlacha’s luminaries was the best ever! The luminary committee give thanks to ALL that had contributed to this year’s special anniversary.
