To those who represent us: Do your job
To the editor:
OK people, it’s time to cut the crap and state the obvious. This government is not working. We all know that there is no such thing as unbiased news any more, because your device will just show you what you want to see. But there is no denying that the government is shut down and that is hurting people everywhere. Soon, people will be going hungry here because their SNAP benefits (food stamps) will not be paid. That’s unless the government does what it is supposed to and uses the $6 BILLION already in a USDA contingency fund which was put there just in case we get in a situation like this. The money is already there, and Federal Judge John McConnell just ruled that the federal government has to use it to continue to make sure families, seniors, and veterans don’t run out of food.
Now we can all point fingers and say it’s these people or those people who are at fault. But the fact is that the politicians are at fault. All of them. They are supposed to represent us in Washington. You have the Speaker of the House of Representatives refusing to let them come to work — but they are still getting paid. Then you have people like the aircraft controllers who the government is forcing to go to work even though they are not getting paid. How does that make sense? And let me tell you, if I don’t get to see my kids at Thanksgiving because the TSA and air traffic controllers refuse to work without getting paid, I am going to be even more angry at the politicians.
So does it matter what label you put on yourself or on your politicians? Nope, this is not a Democrat thing or a Republican thing or a Libertarian thing or a Green Party thing or an Independent thing or a Flat Earther thing or a Wiccan thing. Who cares? These labels are just being used to divide us. But WE THE PEOPLE do not want to be divided or to have our government not work because they can’t get along with each other and just want to blame the other person.
We the people need to call our politicians and demand that they do their job, show up to work if they want to get paid, and take care of our basic needs like food, healthcare and paychecks. And call them every day until they fix it.
