The Lee County Community Band invites the public to Celebrating Holidays Around the World, a festive holiday performance on Sunday, Dec. 7, at 3 p.m., at Mariner High School in Cape Coral. Admission is free, and all ages are welcome.

The band will perform classic carols, global holiday favorites and a fun audience sing-along under the direction of Gil Peltola. The 60-plus volunteer musicians continue a musical tradition that dates back more than 130 years to the Fort Myers Brass Band, making the ensemble one of the oldest continuously operating community bands in the United States.

Concerts will be performed in the auditorium at Mariner High School, 701 Chiquita Blvd., Cape Coral. There is ample parking off of Tropicana Parkway, W. All concerts are free and open to the public. All concerts begin at 3 p.m. Additional concert dates are Jan. 11, Feb. 15, March 15 and April 12.

The Lee County Community Band was originally formed on Nov. 21,1885, under the name of the Fort Myers Brass Band. The band that is known today as the Lee County Community Band was incorporated as a 501(c)(3) non-profIt organization in 1982.

There have been many changes along the way, but one thing has been kept constant — the band’s commitment to bring quality musical entertainment to the Lee County Community and to never charge a fee to attend its concerts. The band’s members are amateurs, semi-professional and professional musicians who graciously volunteer their time and talent to share their love of music with concert attendees, just as the original members of the Fort Myers Brass Band did more than 130 years ago.
