Seminole Casino Hotel to host second annual Southern Fried Swamp Jam Festival Jan. 16

Seminole Casino Hotel Immokalee will present the second annual Southern Fried Swamp Jam Festival on Saturday, Jan. 16 with gates opening at 2 p.m.

The free festival will feature outdoor concerts by 38 Special, The Outlaws, Confederate Railroad, and Creedence ’69, as well as merchants and food trucks. Parking and admission are free and attendees should bring their own chairs for concert viewing. For full details, visit moreinparadise.com.

Formed in 1974, the band toured tirelessly from the start, sharpening the explosive live show that’s been 38 Special’s calling card for a half-century. Along the way, the Florida natives fine-tuned their sound too: a blend of muscle and melody, filled with the arena-rock pop hooks that would soon become staples of FM radio. Years passed… Trends changed… Some band members retired from the rigors… but 38 Special remained, hitting the road year after year, flying the flag for an enduring form of classic rock and roll that never dies.

As 38 Special enters its sixth decade together, the music continues with “Milestone.” It’s the band’s first studio album in more than 20 years, and it showcases a group of road warriors with plenty of miles left in the tank. Fueled up on snarling guitars, anthemic melodies, and the desire to break new ground, they update their sound for the 2020s, bridging the gap between past and present without forgetting their rock and roll roots.

The Outlaws

For The Outlaws, it’s always been about the music. For more than 40 years, the Southern Rock legends celebrated triumphs and endured tragedies to remain one of the most influential and best-loved bands of the genre. Today, The Outlaws have returned with new music, new focus and an uncompromising new mission: It’s about a band of brothers bound together by history, harmony and the road. It’s about a group that respects its own legacy while refusing to be defined by its past. But most of all, it’s about pride. “It’s About Pride” was also the title of the band’s acclaimed 2012 album, universally hailed as their victorious comeback.

Formed in Tampa in 1972, The Outlaws – known for their triple-guitar rock attack and three-part country harmonies – became one of the first acts signed by Clive Davis (at the urging of Ronnie Van Zant) to his then-fledgling Arista Records. The band’s first three albums “The Outlaws,””Lady In Waiting” and “Hurry Sundown” – featuring such rock radio favorites as “There Goes Another Love Song,” “Green Grass & High Tides,” “Knoxville Girl” and “Freeborn Man” – would become worldwide gold and platinum landmarks of the Southern Rock era. Known as “The Florida Guitar Army” by their fans, The Outlaws earned a formidable reputation as an incendiary live act touring with friends The Allman Brothers, Lynyrd Skynyrd, The Marshall Tucker Band and The Charlie Daniels Band as well as The Doobie Brothers, The Who, Eagles and The Rolling Stones.

Confederate Railroad

Confederate Railroad first rolled onto the national country music scene in the early 1990s with its unique style and sound. The first single from their debut album “Confederate Railroad” was “She Took It Like A Man.” It went to number 26, a preview of what was to come. The next two singles, “Jesus and Mama” and “Queen of Memphis,” went to the top of the charts. Three more huge hits followed, “Trashy Women,” “When You Leave That Way You Can Never Go Back,” and “She Never Cried.”

“Trashy” would lead to a Grammy nomination and become their signature song. That album with six hits and nearly three million sales brought Confederate Railroad the Academy of Country Music’s Best New Group Award in 1993 as well as numerous nominations from the Country Music Association and the British Country Music Foundation.

The second album, “Notorious,” produced one of the group’s most popular songs, “Daddy Never Was the Cadillac Kind,” which became a number one video as well. “Elvis and Andy” and “Summer in Dixie” would further establish the Railroad as one of the most versatile acts in the business. This album would sell more than one million. Their overall totals are 18 charted hits and five million albums sold.

Creedence ’69

Creedence ’69 is the ultimate Creedence Clearwater Revival tribute.
