First responders thanked for service
In recognition of Sept. 11 for the fifth year in a row, Pine Island first responders were treated to lunch in honor of their service and duty to the community. This year marked the 25th anniversary of the terrorist attacks on the United States that took the lives of 2,977 people and approximately 415 first responders. The Eagle’s Nest Restaurant donated pizzas for the lunch, which were distributed to the fire district/EMS and Lee County Sheriff’s Office. This year continued a tradition made possible by the support of businesses from the island and Cape Coral. Organizers noted that the tradition will continue and all should remember the motto to “Never Forget” the attack that cost so many lives and brought the country together in true patriotism with the common goal of rooting out of the terrorists responsible.
