Cammick, Hernandez earn another term as M/PIFCD fire commissioners
On Tuesday, Aug. 18, in the Matlacha /Pine Island Fire Control District held votes for Fire Commissioners seats 4 and 5. Incumbents John Cammick and Joe Hernandez will keep their seats for 4 more years.
Cammick, who has served as a fire commissioner, said he started out as a volunteer firefighter and also served as an EMT. As far as staying on board as a fire commissioner, he said his affection for Pine Island has not wavered and he is happy to serve in any way he is needed.
“I am glad to find myself giving back to Pine Island what it and its people have given me,” Cammick said.
Hernandez, a retired FEMA Medical Consultant, said he is looking forward to serving for the next 4 years. He said he akes his role of fiduciary responsibility to Pine Island seriously, in helping shape the future for many with decision making.
“I’m very grateful for another opportunity to serve the Matlacha/Pine Island Fire Control District,” Hernandez said.
“As a retired fire service member, I am honored to serve the district as a fire commissioner alongside four other dedicated colleagues,” he said.
“Both Commissioner Cammick and I were advised by Chief Mickuleit that no one else registered with Lee County to oppose seats 4 & 5, congratulating us on another new term in the coming November elections.
“Serving the residents and visitors of this island will remain a privilege,” he added.
