The Florida Education Foundation has announced the 2027 Florida Teacher of the Year state finalists, selected from a field of more than 170,000 public school teachers.

A Lee County teacher is among the finalists for the Florida Education Foundation’s 2027 Florida Teacher of the Year award.

Other finalists include Nicole Leon – True North Classical Academy, Florida Charter School Alliance; Sarah Twardy – Fernandina Beach High School, Nassau County; Kyndall Brown – Harmony Middle School, Osceola County and Bree O’Donnell – Dune Lakes Elementary School, Walton County.

The 2027 finalists were chosen from among more than 170,000 public school teachers.

After each school district or eligible charter school consortia selects its teacher of the year, a committee representing teachers, principals, parents and the business community review each application on the basis of outstanding ability to teach and communicate knowledge of the subject taught, professional learning and outstanding school and community service.

The 2027 Florida Department of Education Teacher of the Year will be announced at the gala in July.

The Florida Education Foundation commendations are made in partnership with corporate and education sponsors.
