Friends of the Pine Island Library finish celebration of Gopher Tortoise month
The Friends of Pine Island Library finished off their celebration of Gopher Tortoise month by giving each child at the Pine Island Library Story Time a copy of “At Home with the Gopher Tortoise: The Story of a Keystone Species.” Friends Board Director Kelsey Dexter was there to distribute the books to every child.
Earlier in the month, the Friends co-sponsored with the library a nature journaling class for 3rd, 4th and 5th graders. Part of the journaling focused on gopher tortoises.
Then on April 11, the Calusa Land Trust kicked off the free Gopher Tortoise Story Walk at Wigert Barron Preserve located at 7124 Barrancas Ave., in Bokeelia. The story walk will be up for the entire month of April and visitors are encouraged to visit any time.
