Eagle’s Nest Restaurant owner Tami Sager usually finds herself trying to find a way to help folks. She said the car show they threw at the restaurant last year has already become an annual event and it is returning this month.

Proceeds brought in from the event this year are designated for the Pine Island Community Church, Sager said.

“Last year I started the fundraising committee for the Pine Island Community Church. I took over fundraising. This one goes to their outreach. The Pine Island Community Church has a really good program called, Stand in the Gap. One time a year, any islander who’s down on their luck for any reason — electric bill, car payment, mortgage, rent, or whatever — they can come and get help through PICC,” Sager said.

This car show in particular is for the PICC outreach programs, she said.

While last year brought 80 cars, Sager admitted she would like to see 150 this year.

PICC pastor Michelle Browne said the Stand in the Gap program has been going on for the past 3 years and that it has been truly great to have been able to help so many people.

“We partner with the Beacon and the F.I.S.H., so if we ever have a major expense that goes above what we offer, we’re able to help with all the wonderful island non-profits partnering together,” Browne said.

The Happy Dayz 50s and 60s doo-wop band is booked to play for the car show, and there will also be raffles as well as silent auctions, she said. There are 32 trophies, Sager explained, including those awarded for Best in Show and Best in Show runner-up. There will also be goody-bags given to the first 100 people.

“We make the trophies — I design the trophies out of car parts and Dave Gimball from the church board welds them together for me. I sand blast them and I paint them. It’s pretty cool, everyone likes the trophies. I think it’s gonna be a good time,” Sager said.

To register a car in the car show, call Tami Sager at (740) 703-6501 or email at The nestbokeelia@gmail.com with pertinent car information. Registration can be accomplished up to 10 a.m. on March 28 (the day of the car show).Hours for the show are 11 a.m. to 4p.m. Additional information can be found by visiting TheEagle’sNestRestaurant.com.

The Platinum sponsor and marketing partner for this event is Sunbelt Speed and Performance in St. James City, Sager explained, adding that they have sponsored the stage, meaning they will cover expenses incurred by having entertainment at the event.

“If you’re thinking of having your car in this car show, there is a category for everyone, whether your car is pristine or a work in progress — there will be something for everyone. If anyone is interested in registering, they can call me to register, they can even come in and register at the restaurant. Our bartenders have registration forms,” Sager said.
