A Cape Cape man has been sentenced to 27 months in federal prison for claiming to have “orchestrated the most daring Presidential assassination that this country has ever seen” in a letter sent to a Charlotte County jail official last year.

Christopher Davies, 32, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Sheri P. Chappell for making a threat to assassinate the President of the United States.

Davies had pleaded guilty on Oct. 29, 2025.

He faced a maximum penalty of five years in federal prison.

According to court documents, Davies wrote a letter to an official at the Charlotte Correctional Institution that also stated that “Donald J. Trump must perish.”

During questioning by agent from the U.S. Secret Service, Davies admitted to writing the letter and explained that he wanted to kill the president. When asked hypothetically what he would do if President Trump was near him, Davies claimed that he would attempt to kill President Trump with his bare hands.

The case was investigated by the U.S. Secret Service. It was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Patrick L. Darcey.
