Pine Island Potters’ Guild welcomes in new year Saturday with monthly show at Koucky Studios
Mark your calendars for a creative experience as the Pine Island Potters’ Guild welcomes the New Year 2026 with the third installment of this season’s shows. Join us in the courtyard at Koucky Studios this Saturday, Jan. 10, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., for a celebration of art, music and community spirit.
Kick off the New Year by mingling with local artisans and enjoying the lively tunes of “The Fiddler and I.” Discover unique and beautiful collections of island-made handcrafted pieces, ranging from pottery, jewelry and woodworking to stunning paintings and island-inspired home décor. Indulge in ready-to-wear art, lush tropical plants, personalized books by local authors and delightful locally-sourced goodies such as honey, jams, gourmet mustards, and tantalizing hot sauces. Save room for homemade baked treats, perfect as a snack or to grace your table at home.
Immerse yourself in the creative process of raku horsehair pottery firing at 11 a.m., as potter Chuck Koucky and his students demonstrate this fascinating technique. Horsehair pottery, as the name implies, incorporates hair from the tails and manes of horses into its design – the horses are not harmed in the gathering of the hair. The random lines and patterns, that are the signature of this style, are created when the strands of hair combust as they are applied to the surface of a hot raku clay pot that has just been removed from the kiln.
Absorb the dynamic energy of Pine Island’s artistic community as you engage with talented makers, explore their inspiring creations, and gather information about local classes and workshops. Whether you’re a beginner or looking to refine your skills, Chuck Koucky offers pottery classes year-round — be sure to inquire about his schedule and treat yourself to a self-guided tour of the clay studio.
The Potters’ Guild Shows take place every second Saturday from November to April, in the courtyard of Koucky Studios at 5971 Bay Point Road, Bokeelia. For further details about the Potters’ Guild and their delightful seasonal events, reach out to Nancy Koucky at 239-233-3003.
Don’t miss this chance to connect with the soul of Pine Island and its remarkable artistic talents!
