According to Beacon of HOPE board member Elsie Stearns, islanders as well as the Beacon of HOPE team were equally joyful in regards to how well this year’s Holiday House came along. Most Pine Islanders know, the Holiday House Event is the Beacon of HOPE’s single largest fundraiser of the year.

Stearns described this year’s event in particular as tremendously successful, having had higher attendance than ever before.

“There were over 600 people–probably about 650 people for the three-day event,” Stearns said.

Pine Islanders, who are so giving, understand the role that the Beacon plays in the community, and how important the organization is on the whole, she said.

“We are so lucky to be where we are and to be so well received by the community,” Stearns said.

Beacon of HOPE Executive Director Nancy Cote agreed with Stearns, both in the accomplishment of the event and also the support of Pine Islanders.

“Holiday House is a celebration of community and generosity. This year’s Holiday House was an incredible success! While we are still tallying the final numbers, one thing is clear, our island community truly stands behind us. Attendance soared, and the bidding on our beautifully decorated holiday trees, donated by local businesses and nonprofits, was nothing short of remarkable,” Cote said.

She describes Tarpon Lodge as having been a gracious host once again, amazing the Beacon team with its hospitality and support. Guests raved about the delicious appetizers and the stunning venue décor, she said, giving thanks to the creative efforts of islander artist Ashley Johnson. The festive atmosphere was brought to life by talented entertainers whose music and DJ performances made the event a true celebration, she said.

“Family Day was especially heartwarming. Thanks to a generous donation from United Way, every child received a gift free of charge. A few island residents went above and beyond by covering entrance fees for all children, ensuring that cost was never a barrier for families to enjoy the festivities. We are also deeply grateful to the Matlacha Fire Department, Pine Island Elementary School, Matlacha Hookers and Kona Ice for providing crafts, activities and meals for the kids. Thank you to everyone who attended, donated, and helped make this year’s Holiday House unforgettable, Cote said.

The owner and manager of Tarpon Lodge, Robert Wells, said he and his team were excited to be able to host the Holiday House at the lodge again this year.

“The weather was perfect. It was well attended, and, most importantly, we were able to raise a good amount of money to support the Beacon of Hope,” Wells said.
