Fit7 Personal Coaching in action on Pine Island
Tim Maurer has a vision that includes his business, Fit7 Personal Coaching.
“We believe in fitness, mind, body and spirit,” Maurer said, emphasizing the importance of having the three-in-one as a goal.
Maurer said he believes he is from a generation who have honestly believed they don’t need anything as far as spiritual guidance, and what he does through Fit7 is to provide personal coaching.
“I call it coaching instead of training. The reason for the word coaching is that it’s more sustainable — it’s long lasting. It’s a sustainable development,” Maurer said.
The impact will go on for much longer than simply the time they are with the client, he said. The goal is to help each client grow new and lasting healthy lifestyle changes.
Although there is currently no physical office, he said, it would be nice to offer clients an office with some workout equipment. There is currently a class offered by Fit7 on Tuesdays and Thursdays at Fishers of Men Lutheran Church.
“We get together for about an hour. The workout is about 40 minutes, with prayer at the beginning and the end and a warm up and cool down. The workout is really designed to work on building stability, balance, the core — we really want to keep people upright and moving and try to eliminate any risk of injuries,” Maurer said.
The heaviest part of the focus, he said, is on longevity, which has become much bigger these days. Continuing to build muscle in ones 70s and 80s has become of major importance.
“Our bones become less dense as we get older, so it’s important to build the muscle,” Maurer said.
Even more important than living as long as one can, he said, is making sure that every day someone is living, they are living a quality life. Making sure his clients are being encouraged to live their best life is a major goal for Fit7.
“I tell them all, listen, you can be at home, eating Cheetos and watching TV, and here you are. Whether you go home and do that after we’re done is up to you, but here you are,” Maurer said.
Maurer said he is especially exhilarated by the energy displayed by some of the older members of his current class at Fishers of Men Lutheran Church, such as a 94-year-old named Bernie.
“She’s in there with these 2-pound dumb-bells and she’s lifting and stretching her arms out and doing semi squats. She was there with the biggest smile on her face that you can believe. I think that’s where the joy comes from — just being able to see that,” Maurer said.
In addition to classes offered to Fishers of Men Church members on Tuesdays and Thursdays, there are also clients who see Maurer or Marina Harrison for personal coaching in their own homes, he said.
If anyone is interested in Fit7 coaching, Maurer said they can visit the website, Fit7personalcoaching.com and fill out a contact form.
