United Way of Lee, Hendry, and Glades is seeking Southwest Floridians who would like to volunteer for the organization’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program – Preparing taxes for households in the area that are underserved.

VITA assists households earning $70,000 or less by preparing and e-filing federal tax returns free of charge, ensuring maximum refunds through tax credits, such as the Earned Income Tax Credit, Child Tax Credit, and American Opportunity Tax Credit. For many families, these refunds mean the difference between making ends meet and facing financial hardship.

United Way will provide volunteers with free training, certification, and all the support needed to become a confident IRS certified tax preparer. Preparers will help hardworking families get the refunds they deserve while gaining valuable experience in finance, customer service, and community engagement. Plus, tax professionals can earn continuing education credits while making a difference.

Flexible hours are available from January through April every tax season. Orientation and training classes for new volunteers begin in November. To register, visit UnitedWayLee.org, or contact Vita@UnitedWayLee.org or 239-333-4580 for more information.
