Good Samaritan returns rabbit to little girl
Tuesday night, Sept. 13, high winds blew over the enclosure “Moon” the bunny lived in at the Card house in Bokeelia. When 8-year-old Chrislen Card went out to feed the bunny the next morning, he was gone.
Sabrina Card, Chrislen’s mother, thought the bunny was lost forever but decided to post on Facebook about the lost bunny.
Teresa Bigler noticed the post and mentioned it to her daughter, 18-year-old Courtney Bigler. Friday night, Sept. 16, on her way home from work, Courtney noticed a black and white bunny along the road in front of the old Red’s restaurant on Stringfellow Road.
“I immediately thought of that lost bunny and went home to tell my mom,” Courtney said. “My mother got a box and we went back to Red’s to see if we could find it. Luckily he was eating some grass and we picked him up and put him in the box.”
After giving Moon some water and carrots, Teresa and Courtney announced on Facebook that the bunny was found.
“But it was late and we didn’t hear back right away, so we just held him until morning when I heard from Mrs. Card.”
Soon Moon was back home with Chrislen.
“I’m just thrilled someone found Moon,” Sabrina said. “I thought he was lost.
“I’d like to thank Courtney and her mother for getting him back where he belongs,” she continued. “My daughter is very happy he’s home this is such a wonderful island.”
