Cat of the Week

Harley is a gorgeous silver tabby that someone left outside when they moved. He is FIV positive, but has no other signs of illness. He loves to be brushed and petted. He tolerates the other kitties, but would prefer to have you all to himself. The FIV it isn’t as bad as it sounds. FIV stands for Feline Immunodeficiency Virus. It is a lentivirus, meaning that it progresses very slowly, gradually affecting a cat’s immune system. It is passed through blood transfusions and through serious, penetrating bite wounds (mainly by stray, intact male cats). FIV cats usually live long and healthy lives as long as they receive good care, a healthy diet and regular vet check ups. So if you can provide that, Harley will love you forever!
Cat of the Week

Baby is a handsome 9-year-old black and white smoke kitty. For people who don’t read a lot of cat magazines, that means he has a white undercoat that shows through the black fur. It’s beautiful and I think Baby knows it! His former owner had to move in with family, but the transition has been a piece of cake for baby. He walked into the shelter and made himself right at home. Because he is naturally social, curious and affectionate, he needs a home where he won’t be bored. If you like to include your pet in your activities, I think Baby is the kitty for you. Give us a call, he’s already packed! Don’t forget October 27th is “Make A Difference Day!” If you would like to “Make a Difference” for Helping Paws Animal Sanctuary, please bring your donation of cat food, scoopable cat litter, or money to the shelter. We will be collecting items all week in our donation box outside or inside during business hours. We want to thank everyone who has worked to collect donations for this event, especially Nancy Benjamin who has made us her “pet project!”

This striking 5-year-old kitty is Lilly. She’s more than just a pretty face however, she’s sweet and playful too. She has a relaxed demeanor, Purrrfect for someone who wants to skip past the exuberant kitten years and get right to the mellow loving years.

Meet Charlie. His owner just passed away and he is hoping for a new one. Charlie is 9 years old, declawed and weighs in at a whopping 22 pounds. He is very affectionate and could use a little playtime and exercise. Charlie wants to be an only cat and has been a loner at the shelter. He is still grieving and we think a new home is just what he needs. If you would like to meet Charlie, please call Helping Paws at 239-283-9100.
Please note that our visiting hours have changed for the fall. We are now open daily from 5-7 p.m., and are closed for renovations Mondays and Wednesdays. Thanks!
