Island Computer Outlet offers full line of goods and services
Those in need of computer repair or upgrade services need not travel off the island to take care of their home or business PC, or laptops and notebooks, as Island Computer Outlet is just minutes away in Bokeelia.
Offering state-of-the-art computer repair services, employees at the Computer Outlet can repair ailing equipment, upgrade equipment or custom build a new home or office computer to the customer’s specifications.
“Our specialty is diagnostic tune-ups,” said owner Jan Sheen. “Our tech, John Davey, will go into the computer to check all of the components and clean up any problems. Once done, this will help the computer to run faster and more efficiently.”
Island Computers opened last June and according to Sheen, it has serviced and repaired more than 100 desktop and laptop computers.
“We were very busy this winter and John solved a variety of problems for people here on the island. With the season ending, however, things have slowed down a bit, but it is our hope that year-round residents will remember us when they need help with their computers,” said Sheen. “The up side of having more free time during the summer months is the turn-around time will be quicker and we may consider doing house calls as well.”
At this time, Island Computers has several new and used desktop computers as well as some refurbished laptops for sale at reasonable prices.
“John has been a great help. I spilled coffee on my computer and ruined it, but John set me up with a newly refurbished laptop and it runs great,” said Bokeelia resident Mike Beardsley. “Whenever I have a question or problem, I go to see John.”
Davey has over 20 years of experience working on computers and was last employed by Computer Outlet in Fort Myers.
“When we owned Potent Herbs at the island center, John did all of our computer repairs and set-ups and even after we sold the business we continued to call on John to take care of our equipment,” said Sheen. “We knew he wasn’t happy in his present job and since we were looking into starting another business on the island, we approached him about coming to work for us and this arrangement is working out very well for all of us.”
According to Davey, the problem he encounters most are computer viruses.
“Removing viruses is a necessary, but tedious job. Cleaning up your computer is as important as cleaning your drains and should be done on a regular basis,” said Davey. “I have developed a set procedure, however, that helps to keep the cost down when it comes to cleaning out viruses from computers.”
According to Davey, virus removal runs between $60 and $75.
In addition to repairing computers and updating software, Island Computer Outlet also offers new or refurbished desktop and laptop computers for sale, as well as custom builds and computer accessories.
