The Pine Island Elementary (PIE) School recently kicked off the new school year with its first Eagle Book Club meeting, bringing together fourth and fifth graders ready to dive into fresh stories.

It gives upper elementary students the opportunity to read titles selected for the Sunshine State Young Readers Award (SSYRA) Program.

Designed to foster a lifelong passion for literature, the club creates a space where students can discuss their favorite titles, recommend books to their peers and share their joy of reading — a habit that promises to enrich their lives for years to come.

Local community support plays a vital role in making the program a success.

The club gave a big thank you to the Bobby Holloway Jr. Foundation, which graciously supported it by purchasing copies of each SSYRA book for members. Additionally, it extended its gratitude to Winn-Dixie for providing delicious monthly treats that make every meeting even more enjoyable.

“Thanks to both organizations, PIE students are fully equipped and excited to embark on this year’s reading journey!” the school reported.
