Island fire district shares safety tips for fun Halloween
As Halloween approaches, the Matlacha/Pine Island Fire Control District encourages residents to enjoy the holiday while keeping safety a top priority.
“With families heading out for trick-or-treating, everyone can help make the evening fun and safe by following a few simple precautions,” it reported.
Children should wear bright or reflective clothing, carry a flashlight or glow stick, use sidewalks whenever possible, and cross streets at designated crosswalks.
Parents should accompany young children, inspect treats before they are eaten, and ensure costumes fit properly and do not obstruct vision.
Motorists are reminded to slow down in residential neighborhoods and watch carefully for children.
To help promote visibility and safety, the Matlacha/Pine Island Fire crew will be out in the community on Halloween, handing out glow sticks to trick-or-treaters.
“The fire district wishes everyone a happy and safe Halloween and encourages residents to look out for one another while enjoying the holiday,” it reported.
