On Sept. 29, the Lee County Supervisor of Elections began mailing approximately 119,000 vote-by-mail ballots to Lee County voters with an active request on file for the Nov. 3 general election.

It reported vote-by-mail ballots cannot be forwarded to a different address. Voters who will not be at the address they provided when they submitted their vote-by-mail request are encouraged to contact the Elections Office to update their request.

Voters who wish to vote by mail still have time to submit a request. The deadline is 5 p.m. Oct. 22. Requesting a vote-by-mail ballot does not require an excuse, and the return postage is paid.

The deadline to return a vote-by-mail ballot to the Supervisor of Elections is 7 p.m. Nov. 3.

Voters who plan to return their ballot by mail are recommended to do so no later than Oct. 20 to allow time for delivery and processing.

Hand-delivered ballots may be returned to any office of the Lee County Supervisor of Elections from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday or from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Election Day, Nov. 3.

Vote-by-mail ballots may also be returned to an authorized secure ballot intake station, which are located at all 12 early voting sites during the early voting period.

It noted under Florida law, a voter may deliver his or her own ballot, an immediate family member’s ballot and up to two ballots per election for someone who is not an immediate family member. Collecting, delivering or otherwise physically possessing more than the legally allowed number of ballots is a third-degree felony.

In addition, the Elections Office mailed about 200,000 voter engagement notices last week for the general election to voters in 37 high-population precincts.

The notices provide voters with information on voting by mail and early voting, two alternatives to voting on Election Day. Both are convenient voting options that can expedite casting their ballots in the upcoming election.

Early voting will take place from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Oct. 19-31. Voters may cast a ballot at any of the 12 designated early voting sites located throughout the county.
