Lee DOT begins sidewalk improvements along Stringfellow Road

The Lee County Department of Transportation reminds Pine Island residents that sidewalk improvements began Monday, June 29, along Stringfellow Road. This project includes the removal and replacement of sidewalk panels in areas where cracking and concrete deterioration have occurred. Construction crews will begin on the south side of Stringfellow Road near St. James City and progress north as work advances. The project schedule will be from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m, Monday through Saturday. Pedestrians and bicyclists should expect to see intermittent sidewalk closures and are encouraged to follow posted signage. Once again, American Legion Post 136 will be the proud sponsors of both the parade and the fireworks. As we will be celebrating our nation’s 250th birthday, Post 136 would like to pull all the stops making this a fun and exciting party and invite the Pine Island community to spend the day and evening at the American Legion. Tax Collector to close North Fort Myers service center

The Lee County Tax Collector’s North Fort Myers service center will close at the end of July, with a future office set to open at the end of the year near Page Field. The center in North Fort Myers will close on July 31 as the preparations continue for the new Colonial Service Center at 2116 Colonial Blvd., across the street from the AutoNation Toyota. With the facility’s lease set to expire in August 2027, the agency is taking time to prepare equipment, technology and other resources for the Colonial Service Center office.
