Kiwanis Club holds annual end of summer pool party
Each year, the Pine Island Kiwanis Club hosts an end of summer, back to school pool party, family event. Kiwanis paid all admittance fees, and served hot dogs, chips, drinks, cookies and fruit to participants.
“A great time was had by all,” said local Kiwanian Carlyn Herring, who also said the event was well attended. “We had a lot of people there. We had a lot of people asking about Kiwanis, so we’re hoping to get some new people to come to a Kiwanis meeting and see what we’re all about.”
Local Kiwanis Club members meet at 7:30 every Wednesday morning at Bert’s Bar & Grill at 4271 Pine Island Road in Matlacha. Their mission, Herring said, is improving the world one community and one child at a time.
Everything done by the Kiwanis Club is focused on the community’s children, such as sponsorship of the local Pine Island Leaders of Tomorrow (PILOT) program, college scholarships, pool parties and the Boy Scouts.
If a child has been invited into the Youth and Government program in Tallahassee, Herring said, Kiwanis helps with that sponsorship.
“Joining the local Pine Island Kiwanis Club is a great way to foster our youth and get connected to the community,” said Herring.
