Winners crowned in 19th Annual Bobby Holloway Jr. Memorial Fishing Tournament
Under sunny skies Saturday, the annual Bobby Holloway Jr. Memorial Fishing Tournament took place at Pineland Marina.
“I’m very excited that we are celebrating our 19th Annual Bobby Holloway tournament,” Elsie Stearns said. “It’s also the third year we’re doing the ‘Big Snook’ tournament and we have 62 boats registered. Eleven of those are local licensed charter captains taking our kids from 7 to 13 years old we call them “Lil Bobbers.”
The “Lil Bobbers” division is for children who don’t have an opportunity to fish or have a parent to go fishing with. Eleven licensed captains that donated their time, talent and treasure to take those children fishing for the day. Eligible fish for children are: biggest Snook, biggest Redfish, biggest Trout and biggest Ladyfish.
The Bobby Holloway Memorial was established to honor Bobby Holloway Jr.. who lost his life in a hunting accident in 1997. Bobby was 11 years old. The annual Bobby Holloway Memorial Fishing Tournament was started shortly after Bobby’s death and the fishing tournament raises funds for the memorial. Hundreds of island businesses have sponsored the Bobby Holloway Memorial Fishing Tournament over the years and there have been dozens and dozens of beneficiaries.
