Over 30 youngsters compete in Pine island Junior Olympics
Lee County Parks and Recreation and the Kiwanis Club of Greater Pine Island held the 36th annual Pine Island Junior Olympics Saturday, Dec. 10. About 33 children arrived for the event.
“This is a great day for the children of Pine Island,” Kiwanis President Mike Shevlin said.
“Children from kindergarten through 5th grade compete in the Junior Olympics in the long jump, 50 yard dash, quarter-mile run, Frisby toss and softball throw. We have something like 35 children here today and although I would love a better turnout, it’s great for the children that are here.”
The sponsors of this year’s event, in addition to Lee County Parks and Recreation, and the Kiwanis Club, were Pine Island Dairy Queen, Wagoner and Gruel, Capital Bank and Team Shevlin at Century 21.
