11-year old Bokeelia angler triumphs in Key West Fishing Tournament
Eleven-year-old Thomas Green of Bokeelia recently bested several dozen adult anglers to earn top honors in multiple categories of the Key West Fishing Tournament’s Kickoff 2016.
Thomas scored the challenge’s heaviest kingfish at 22 pounds and the heaviest mackerel at 7.75 pounds. Both were his first catches of the species, and the kingfish earned him the junior division’s heaviest catch award on April 10.
Fishing aboard the Miss Ivory, skippered by Capt. Jason Johnson of Key West, Green also released his first sailfish and followed it with a second.
“Last year, he and I decided we’re going to be a fishing team and fish tournaments together,” said Thomas’s father Glenn Green.
The Greens hope to fish another tournament in the near future.
