The seventh annual Alden Pines golf scramble to benefit the FISH Christmas Basket Brigade was held Friday, Dec. 15, at the Bokeelia golf course. The benefit is sponsored by the men’s and women’s golf leagues at Alden Pines.?

Twenty-eight golfers teed up for the 3 p.m. shotgun start. After nine holes, the team of Rich Crotty, Bob Miller, Marcia Harris and Marty Crotty were declared the winners with a score of 5 under par.?

Local merchants and businesses sponsored holes while food for the dinner held after the golf outing was provided by Publix, Winn-Dixie and the golfers themselves.?

“It’s a fun way to help FISH make sure island children have a Merry Christmas,” said Helen Castile. “In addition to entrance fees and funds provided by hole sponsorships, we also have a raffle with some very nice prizes which Larry Freeman got from local merchants.”

Tickets were sold for the raffle and those bringing non-perishable food items were thanked with free tickets for each item brought.?Marcia Harris, who used to live on Pine Island and now makes her home in Cape Coral, said she loves to come back for such a worthwhile event.

Island investment counselor Garth Morreau knows the importance of a child’s Christmas.

“My wife and I are fortunate we can make our girls’ Christmas very bright,” Morreau said. “Unfortunately, some island families aren’t so fortunate so I am happy to participate on behalf of their children.”
