Hookers to host school Fishing Derby
The 15th Annual Pine Island Elementary Fishing Tournament & Derby, sponsored by the Matlacha Hookers, will be held Sunday, Oct. 13, at the Olde Fish House Marina in Matlacha.
The Matlacha Hookers were formed 15 years ago (1998) when 21 women got together and decided to “make a difference in their community.” These women formed the Matlacha Hookers. Their motto: “I will always try to act with high moral and ethical character and will do my best to make a positive difference in our community through my commitment to the Matlacha Hookers.”
In those 15 years the “Hookers” have contributed greatly to the people of Pine Island and Matlacha with their fishing tournaments, support for the Beacon of HOPE, senior programs, annual scholarships to high school students, GED programs, and the Hookers are one of the major donors to the Pine Island Food Pantry.

Music Lineup:?7:45 a.m. – national anthem
10:45 a.m. – Whiskey Throttle
12 p.m. – Aimee Lynn Band
1:15 p.m. – Grayson Rogers Band
3:45 p.m. – Strange Arrangement
5 p.m. – Trailer Park Barbie and Friends.
Preregistration is Saturday, Oct. 12, from 12-6 p.m. A Captains Meeting will be held immediately after. There is a $50 fee per angler for prizes.
Sponsorships for children for the derby is $30 for each PIE child and $35 for each non-PIE child. Sponsorship includes fishing rod and reel, bait, games, trophies, face painting, free lunch and two sodas, T-shirt painting and four bike raffles
Kids Derby sponsorship forms are available at Seven Seas Marina and Olde Fish House in Matlacha; Pine Island Marine and Tackle in St. James City; or Fourwinds Marina in Bokeelia. They are also available at Pine Island Elementary or on the Web at www.MatlachaHookers.org.
Divisions in the Derby are: Sharks (4th & 5th grade students), 8-9:30 a.m.; Pinfish (2-3 grade students), 9:45-11:15 a.m.; and Shrimp (kindergarten-1st grade students), 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Checks should be made payable to the Matlacha Hookers and can be dropped off at Pine Island Elementary or mailed to PO Box 111, Matlacha, FL 33993.
