Team Raymond takes home top prize
Hosting another successful PIE Tournament and Derby, the members of the Matlacha Hookers were pleased to present the cash award to Team Raymond who successfully caught and landed the event’s biggest slam consisting of a snook, redfish and a trout. Presenting the award to Craig Whitaker, Mat Shell and Kerry Tottor was Hooker Madam, Lisa Benton.
The children participating in the Kids Derby withstood chilly temperatures but were rewarded for their efforts. Trophies were awarded in three divisions and are as follows:
Shrimp Division – Grades K-1
First place, Tie Jaylin and Madison Brennan
Second place, Stephanie Snyder Phanco
Third place, Tie Halley Burbadge and Abigail Taylor
Pinfish Division – 2nd-3rd
First place, Jacob Holmes
Second place, Courtny Snyder Phanco
Third place, Jonathan Bush
Shark Division – 4th-5th
First place, Baylee Phanco
Second place, Sarah Simone
Third place, Sal Cammileri
A special trophy also was award to the student who won the Principal Look-A-Like contest. The award went to Justice Kelly who inadvertently caught a seagull. The entry was to have been something that most closely resembled the principal of Pine Island Elementary, Rob Mazzoli. This prize was awarded to Justine because the judges felt it was appropriate since Mazzoli is know to be an Eagle fan. The seagull was released unharmed.
The winner of the Grand Catch award was presented to Jacob Holmes for his fish weighing 4.4 pounds.
