Clare B. Freaney, 97, of Cape Coral, formerly of Yonkers, N.Y., passed away Friday, June 13, 2014, in Cape Coral. She was born April 20, 1917, in Bronx, N.Y., to Daniel and Mary Barrett, now deceased.
She resided in New York City most of her adult life where she raised her children and taught fourth grade in a New York City public school for many years. After retiring from teaching, she obtained a real estate brokers license and enjoyed exploring Columbia and Dutchess counties, New York. After moving to Florida she opened a gift store in Matlacha and delighted in meeting the locals and tourists who stopped by. She was athletic for most of her life and enjoyed horseback riding, ice skating, tennis and golf. She was not hesitant to try most things and had great joy in all she did.
She is survived by her seven children, Mary F. Dooley (James) of Cape Coral, James P. Freaney of Nicaragua, Vincent J. Freaney (Margaret) of Cape Coral, Peter J. Freaney (Susan) of Cape Coral and New York, Eleanor A. Cortes of Cape Coral, Arthur Freaney (Josephina) of Elizaville, N.Y., and Gerard Freaney (Betty) of Elmhurst, Ill.; two sisters, Bernadette Riordan and Ursula Johnson of Manchester, N.J.; 15 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James E. Freaney, and her son Joseph Freaney.
