Paul Sidney Birdwell, 72 , died May 20,2014 after a long battle from Cancer.
Born in Springfield TN Jan.13,1942 to Delwin and Lucille Birdwell
Paul was a Vietnam Veteran with Special Forces and the Military Police and retired after 22 1/2 yrs of service with the U.S. Army in Aug. 1982, as a Command Sergeant Major.

After his first retirement, he was the manager of the Neckar Rod & Gun Club in Germany until 1989 where he then worked for Dyncorp Aerospace Operations in Belgium and Germany until 1996. He and his wife Toni of 221/2 yrs then initially settled in St. James, MO. Paul subsequently worked for and retired yet again from the MO Department of Corrections in Mar. 2000.
They then resided on Big Pine Island, FL until 12/07 when they settled on Pine Island, FL.
He is survived by his wife, Eleanora (Toni) Birdwell, Siblings Alma Owen, Ruth Ricks, Grant Birdwell, Bobby Birdwell, Marie and Tom Haley, David Birdwell, Lucille and Troy Bell, and Leonard Birdwell. Children include his sons Dennis and his wife Jennifer of Goodlettesville TN, Clayton Allmon of St. James City, FL and his daughter Diane and her husband Hamdi Oerkue in Germany. Grandchildren are Michael and Meghan Birdwell in TN, and Levent, Yunas, and Esma Oerkue in Germany.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers JD, Jewel and Wayne Birdwell.
Paul enjoyed helping people and fishing. He was a Life Member of the VFW Post 4353 on Pine Island and took great pride in helping other Veterans. He was Post Commander in 2012. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 136 on Pine Island.
A memorial service will be held at the American Legion Post 136 on June 21, 2014 at 1:00 PM.
