Seventy island children in grades 1 through 5 participated in the 32nd annual Pine Island Junior Olympics held at Bobby Holloway Jr. Little League Baseball Field Saturday Dec. 14. The event was sponsored by the Pine Island Kiwanis Club and Lee County Parks and Recreation.
"The weather couldn't be better," said event organizer and Kiwanis Club founder Mike Shevlin. "We have great volunteers helping, including Lee County Parks and Recreation who also provides the prize ribbons, and the field looks fantastic. It's a lot of fun for everyone.?
"We've been doing this for so long, some of today's contestants parents participated when they were in elementary school," he noted.
