Just a couple of months ago, Island Girl Fitness Club opened its doors and so far business has been great.
"We're off to a good start," owner Cindy Smith said. "We opened the last week in August and over the last couple of months we were working out the bugs with the software and the keyless entry. We're trying to make sure we are ready for when the season starts.
"I came up with the name of the business from the song 'Island Girl' and it fits Pine Island perfectly," Smith said.
Owner Cindy Smith, left, and Kim Holowell, an employee, at Island Girl Fitness Club.
The other owner of the business is Tim Jordan.
Similar to one of the national chains, Island Girl Fitness Club has a full range of equipment.
The business slogan of the club is "No Men No Mirrors."
"The club is for women only," Smith said. "I think this creates a better environment for women to feel comfortable while they're exercising."
Island Girl Fitness is open "24/7."
"That means every member has a passkey to come in any time that is convenient for them," she said. "We may not have an attendant 24/7, but members have access any time they want."
Island Girl specializes in a 30-minute workout that includes strength-training using "hydraulic resistance."
"By using our 30-minute workout three times a week members get a 100 percent benefit," Smith said.
Rates are low at just $30/$35 a month with no contract. Island Girl is also offering a free trial workout, "So come in and give it a try at no cost," Smith said. "And one more thing, local artist Mel Meo is designing the T-shirts for Island Girl Fitness."
The location is perfect for a fitness center. In the past residents of Pine Island had to travel to Cape Coral for the nearest fitness center. That trip took about 30 minutes one way.
"Now our members can get their workout done in the same amount of time it took them to drive to the fitness center," Smith said.
Island Girl Fitness Club is located at 5261 Pine Island Road, Suite 101, Bokeelia.
