October 23, 2013
Pine Island Eagle

The Matlacha Community Center is gearing up for the winter season and staff is looking for input from the Pine Island/ Matlacha residents on classes they would enjoy participating in at the center.

Please call the center at 239-283-4110 or send an e-mail to crichter@leegov.com with class ideas for the upcoming season.

If you have not heard, Lee County Parks and Recreation's Matlacha/Pine Island area is under new supervision. Pat Putnam has been located in the North Fort Myers area as a maintenance supervisor for the past 10 years, with his office located at Hancock Park. His area has been expanded and now includes the Matlacha/Pine Island area. Pat has been with the department for 17 years.

Senior Supervisor Steve Cox was relocated to this area in late March 2013 from the South Fort Myers area, where he oversaw several parks and the Wa-ke Hatchee Recreation Center. His current area of supervision includes the Matlacha/Pine Island area as well as several parks in North Fort Myers.

Cox has been with Lee County Parks and Recreation for 16 years and a Pine Island resident since 1985. He started his career with the department as a maintenance specialist at Phillips Park and then as a senior recreation specialist at Matlacha for six years.

Please feel free to contact his office at 239-282-5651.
