Moose provides Medication Deferral List for blood donors

September 4, 2013
Pine Island Eagle

Many times people who want to donate blood are reluctant to because they are unsure if any of the medications they are taking will prevent them from donating.

Here is a list of medications the LMHS Blood Center includes on their Medications Deferral List: Anti-cancer medications, Coumadin (blood thinner), Proscar, Avodart, Procepia, Accutane, Soriatane, Tegison, Human Growth Hormone, Insulin from cows (bovine, or beef, insulin), Hepatitis B Immune Globulin and unlicensed vaccine from research projects.

Check with the LMHS Donor Center at 239-343-2333 if you are taking a medication not on this list and you have questions about it, or if you have any other questions about donating.

On Saturday, Sept. 7, the LMHS is having a Purple Bus Blood Drive at the Pine Island Moose Lodge, 8903 Stringfellow Road, St. James City, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
