A potluck dinner will be held Sunday, March 24 for former residents of Bokeelia's Charlotte Harbor, Bocilla Seaport, and surrounding RV parks. The annual reunion, to be held at Tropic Isle RV Clubhouse on Stringfellow Road in Bokeelia, is from 1-4 p.m.
Nora Bridge said that, while many of the former residents are now her neighbors at Tropic Isle, many others live or winter throughout Pine Island, and a few in nearby off- island communities.
The annual event is a "chance to re-connect and we always have a wonderful time," Bridge said.
For more than 50 years, the RV parks, which were located past the current Captain Con's restaurant straddling the land between the Back Bay and Charlotte Harbor, thrived. Formerly an active fishing village, some of the early parks' anglers sold their catches, up to 5,000 pounds of fish a day, to commercial venues. Ice houses were located on the bay docks and fish was shipped to New York, Miami and Georgia.
A developer purchased the land, and in 2003, closed the park, but the memories will always linger on.
