Island artist Leoma Lovegrove performed a "Painting Out Loud with Leoma Lovegrove" during Lee Memorial Hospital's luncheon, Flower Power for the Cure, Tuesday, Feb. 12. Her performance in front of an audience of 600 opened the event and six paintings were created live on stage during nine minutes of her synced music. Fun music too - "The Yellow Rose of Texas," "Perhaps Love" and "The Power of Love." Lovegrove spoke as she painted and shared a touching story about her sister, who lost her battle to cancer four years ago. The series of six flowers on canvas titled, "Flower Power for Pinky," sold for $3,000 during the live auction. Cynthia "Pinky" Ruke, a cancer survivor, was chairwoman of the event, "Flower Power For the Cure."
